Armed with a four-track, a mic (that he traded for a video game), and a horribly warped acoustic guitar, he aspired to make a hit song. While other kids his age were busy watching <I>Saved by the Bell</I>, William was in the family music room spinning records and trying to get his recordings to sound like the ones he was listening to. Artists like Led Zeppelin, Bob Segar, and Cream were staples in the headphones. Little did young William know, he was listening to and learning from some of the greatest artists on earth. This set the stage. Today, with the advent of digital technology, years of ear training, and linking up with the world's best collaborator, William co-founded <I>Vested</I>, a soon-to-be break out rock band with powerful licks and a red hot vocalist that sets the stage on fire. </div> <div> <B> <A NAME="dena_maynard"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="1x1.gif" HEIGHT="1" ALIGN="bottom" WIDTH="1" HSPACE="0" VSPACE="0" ></A></B><B>Dena Maynard</B> - With a borrowed ukulele, Dena started singing as a child on salty, sandy beaches beneath windy palm trees in the middle of the Pacific. On the island of Oahu, Hawaii she did not just aspire to become a songwriter, but techno diva as well. Later with a hand-me-down Contessa guitar from her mother and years of dedicated training under vocal instructor, Eunice Demello, Dena also learned recording and collaboration techniques. "The very first sample I'd gotten from Will, I knew within the first few measures he had real talent. "I remember thinking, 'His sound skills aren't just mad, they're angry!'" Dena requested that Will send something new and less developed. She immediately began writing lyrics and melody to the demo guitar track that went on to become their first song, <I>Unprotected</I>. </div> <div> <B> <A NAME="vested"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="1x1.gif" HEIGHT="1" ALIGN="bottom" WIDTH="1" HSPACE="0" VSPACE="0" ></A></B><B>Vested - </B>Will is employed by the United States Armed Forces. Dena is a Registered Nurse. Despite the hustle and bustle of their individual careers and family commitments, the two continue to Rock-n-Roll! "We've been through nursing school, illness, relocation, and continue to face deployments together," says Dena, but their music with the help of technology allows their friendship to survive. Sometimes earnest while other times sexy and provoking lyrics are always paired with a "squeechie" clean all-American rock style. Vested is William Ashley Stratton and Dena Porras Maynard.
